Mmmm

So I've been wanting to make homemade cinnamon rolls for a very long time. Mom makes some excellent rolls...so I've never dared them on my own. Until this blog post made me want to try this recipe.  I randomly mentioned the desire to make them to Matthew yesterday morning, who then proceeds to bring me one that he had made.  It was reeeally good...and though I thought it would satisfy my cinnamon roll desire, it did not satisfy the desire to try and make them for myself. So I made them.  I've never seen a recipe where you start by scalding the milk, oil and sugar. All I'm going to say is...it works.

Helpful tip from Matthew - instead of using melted butter (ultimately messy) use room temperatur butter.
Then add sugar, cinnamon and....(one of my additions to the recipe)
Mmmm. Pecans.
Almost heavenly.
My other change to the recipe - Cream Cheese Icing. I just used two tbsp of melted butter, 1 pkg cream cheese and enough sugar and milk to make it tasty. (No....I didn't measure.)
By the time I finished mixing the icing, these were almost ready to come out.
I let them stand a few minutes before icing.  Then let the icing soak in for a couple minutes before I selected one from the middle to be taste tested.  Have mercy.  I don't know how anyone could eat more than one. I'm also not so sure what I'll do with the rest of the pan. I had orginially thought I'd take them to my SS class in the morning...but I'm certain they do NOT need that much sugar.

Here's the Recipe I used, except for what I changed.
Oh...and I cut the recipe in half. Can't imagine cooking the entire recipe...unless of course I was cooking for a crowd!

  1. how did the pecans do? also, what about the icing vs. the maple glaze?

  2. The Pecans are a MUST - if you like nuts in your cinnamon rolls. I really like the icing...but I fear it makes it entirely too rich. I did like your glaze...it wasn't too maple-y - which I'm generally not a fan of.

  4. Believe it or not...I did think of that...but it was raining...and I've just chilled ALL day (minus a couple loads of laundry).
